Mission: ESAPP’s mission is to promote sustainable land management and sustainable regional development in eastern and southern Africa. It aims to enhance economic development, social welfare, and ecological sustainability through integrated concepts, innovative tools, research partnerships, capacity building, and development support.
Approach: ESAPP works in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Madagascar. It has two main components: (1) demand-driven priority action projects (PAP), submitted and implemented by ESAPP partner institutions; and (2) requirement-driven basic mandates (BM) that seek to strengthen the ESAPP network through a combination of capacity development, networking, and capitalisation of PAP experiences.
Network: ESAPP is a programme of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and is executed by CDE together with its partners. ESAPP partner institutions in the region include universities and other research institutions, governmental offices, NGOs, and the private sector. International South–South collaboration between programme partners bolsters the ESAPP network of competence.
